J-DPS, the Jetboots Diver Propulsion System, is a unique, patented (US Patent 6,823,813) hands-free diver propulsion system designed specifically for the military and commercial diver. Since 2001 these leg-mounted thrusters have allowed divers to have the benefits of a scooter and still have full use of both hands. This, along with their extremely light weight due to the use of brushless motors and lithium polymer batteries, allows divers to bring a scooter on many types of dives where propulsion was previously not an option. There are many recreational, commercial, and military uses for Jetboots, such as underwater photo/video, inspections of large submerged structures (oil rigs, cruise ships, etc.), search and rescue, and reconnaissance. Video of the unit is available: Kona, Hi (WMV, 48 MB) (YouTube) |

We are able to customize the J-DPS system to meet your individual needs. Our standard product line is summarized in the table to the right. Prices shown are for US domestic purchases. International prices are 10% higher. These units are more expensive than conventional scooters due to the extensive use of cutting edge technology (lithium polymer batteries, brushless motors and controllers, oil-filled shaft seals, wet-pluggable connectors). The performance, especially weight, portability, and hands-free operation, are not available in any other product. J-DPS include a 1 year limited warranty.

It is instructive to compare J-DPS to a swimmer in fins. At his peak, Lance Armstrong could generate 500 watts of power for about 30 minutes. Fins are not particularly efficient, about 13% mechanical efficiency. This means that Lance could have put about 500*.13=65 watts into propulsion for 30 minutes. J-DPS runs at 900 watts and will last for an hour (over 3 hours with the single use battery pack) at full throttle. The propellers are very efficient, for an overall system efficiency of at least 50%. This means the J-DPS is putting 900*.50=450 Watts towards effective propulsion. That is almost 7 times more thrust than Lance, which would mean about triple his speed in the water. You cannot out swim J-DPS. Using them, you can arrive at your destination completely fresh and ready, in less than half the time, with ranges up to 10 miles. Because of their negative buoyancy, you only end up carrying about 10 pounds extra dry weight. Divers around the world are now experiencing the tactical advantage of J-DPS. Why arent you?
